Note:

I wanted to do a little run-off of the Ramayana but with different characters. In one of my previous blog posts I talked about how much the Ramayana reminded me of the basic Super Mario Bros. story. It's really simply because of how Peach and Sita both get captured and the other husband/fiancé had to come in to save his loved one. I hope you enjoyed!

  1. Now that you point it out, the story of the Ramayana does remind me of Super Mario Bros. I loved the game growing up so I know the story pretty decently. I like how you kept the story simple and only use these three main characters. Even if you do not rally know the Mario story you can still follow along.

  2. Hey Preston!

I love that you used Mario and Bowser characters to tell your story. I have a great connection with these character and I love that you were able to put these characters in various forms and still make them really interesting to read about. These characters are so popular and I have not seen a lot mentions about them in recent time. I saw that you used Bowser as a character to portray as a bad guy that went out of his way to find the absolute beautiful wife to aid his queen position. I wonder what would Bowser do if he could never find a beautiful wife to marry and be his queen. Would he be a king without a queen? I love that Mario and Luigi were brought to the stories as well and play a part in the core of the stories, I wonder what if you could tell us more about the battle between Mario and Bowser, because it could tie the stories together even better.

  3. Hey Preston, hoping you are doing well and enjoying this semester! I also read Tiny Tales from the Ramayana! I think that this is such as fun and creative twist on the original stories to really make it your own. It is very interesting and engaging to read. Plus, the characters you chose and the setting make sense contextually when compared to the original! I wonder what Mario would do if he lost that battle against Bowser. It would make sense that Peach would remain with Bowser but I wonder what Mario would do from there. Lastly, what if Mario came up with a plot to get Peach back safely without having to battle Bowser. Like some way to sneakily go about it because there is no way to know for certain that Mario would win the battle. I know that it doesn't really match up with the original but it something to think about. Loved your story, Preston!

  4. Hey Preston!

This was a nice spin on the story of Rama saving Sita, which I also read from the Tiny Tales from the Ramayana!. This version was a much more digestible setting in terms of entertainment, as Mario is a much more recognized and entertaining vessel for any form of media. I love how you easily swapped out the setting of the Ramayana for the world of the Mushroom Kingdom, with the protagonist and antagonist also being swapped out for Mario and Bowser. Both tales follow the same general plot, with a damsel in distress needing saving from a hero, so I can see where the inspiration came from to retell the classic tale with elements of the original in the setting of the Mushroom Kingdom. I wonder how Mario defeated Bowser though, as even though this was a short tale, their fight could have definitely been fleshed out more, and carried more detail of the context leading up to their battle. Would there have been a way that Bowser knew Mario would come for Peach, and attempted to stop him from saving her? What if Mario was confronted by Bowser's allies and was stopped? Many ways this story could have played out! Great read overall!

  5. Great story Preston! I really liked the connection between Ramayana and the Super Mario Brothers, because like you said there are many connections between the stories, and I never noticed them until just now. It also makes the story more recognizable because of how well known Mario Bros is. You mentioned that Mario and his brother Luigi where gifted thing to help them because they were fighting off the "bad" in the story, would this be like the star that turns Mario invincible in the game? Also is this a connection to the boons in Ramayana that were given by the gods? One thing that I think you could do to your story is add more details about Mario and Luigi's travels to find Peach, including connections between Rama and Lakshmana's journey to find Sita, like meeting Hanuman or Jatayu. You could do this by adding in different Mario Bros. characters like Yoshi or Toad.
