Week 2 Story - The Cunning Alien and Clark Kent

The year is 3500 and our Earth has grown unsustainable. The humans inhabiting it for the last millennium refused the constant warnings of global warming and pollution. The ozone layer is now anything but what it was in the year 2021, full of dust, space debris, and toxic gases. The people of Earth knew they had to do something, and quick. They hadn't made the necessary space technology to search the universe though, so they grew hopeless.

One day, an alien who was from another world was traveling the universe and stumbled upon Earth. His instincts were so advanced that he knew the people of Earth were desperate just by looking at the sorry planet. After all, he was starving for a human brain. He swoops in to one of the last civilizations known, acting like he was about to save them all, really was plotting to eat them.

After the alien made his plead in saving the people of Earth, they were hesitant. Even in our most desperate times as humans, we can still smell a traces of deceit.  The people of Earth knew it had to be an everybody agree deal or not though. Of course there were the gullible ones who begged for the alien to save the day, and then there were the stubborn ones who said, "no way". About that time, the leader of them all, Clark Kent, came forth and proposed a plan.

"I fly with him back to his planet, and when I get the chance, I throw him out to take over his world. He has no idea I am superman!"

Instantly, everyone was in agreement. They knew their leader superman could save the day!

Clark proposed the idea to the alien, and he accepted. He was foolish in doing so, but he couldn't help it. He was just so hungry. Upon returning to the alien's world, he began to attack, but nobody is going to beat Clark Kent in a fight. Clark made quick work of the alien, took control of the ship, and returned to Earth to bring his species to their new world.

Note

I decided to take up the idea of The Cunning Crane and the Crab by W.H.D. Rouse. I added my own twist in that with new characters, setting, and even new plot twist. This time though, the character taking the place of the cunning crane ends up losing to the "gullible" because of an even more cunning individual.

  1. Hey Preston!

I thought this was such a clever twist on the story The Cunning Crane and the Crab. I never would have thought to take this angle. I liked that it was a happy ending. I did have a question! How old is Clark Kent?? Haha, I was just curious if he had lived 1500+ years or if in your story he had only arrived in recent years. As far as constructive criticism goes, I would just say that maybe more details on how many people were left on earth, what this alien creature looked like, and what his planet looked like. Those were the things I was curious about. Overall nice work!

  2. Hey Preston!

You did an amazing job with your storytelling! It was so unique that I never would have thought about coming up with a story like this. The part where you described earth was very intriguing and made me want to know what the rest of the planet looked like. You did not say anything about how the earth looked, like if there were any animals left or if there were any new animals created due to the Law of Adaptation by Darwin. So, I was thinking if you added something like that, then maybe the readers would get more of a visual to how Earth looks in the year 3500. I understood why Clark had to step up, but I could not understand as to why everyone on Earth could agree in unison. You would think after years of trying to survive, people would start to rely on each other. Was there a reason why the age of the survivors was not mentioned? If there was only one civilization left, did the average lifespan become longer? How were they not killed off earlier? Overall, I thought you did a great!
